A failure in the security protocol of the wifi was discovered. Video.

A group of scientists has discovered a security flaw in the WPA2 protocol that protects Internet connections via wifi, said Monday, October 16, 2017 the specialized web site Ars Technica.

The United States Computer Emergency Response Team (US-Cert) discovered the ruling and should make it public this Monday, according to Ars Technica.

"The vast majority of existing access points would not benefit quickly from a correction," warned the website. According to Ars Technica, "attackers are likely to be able to spy on nearby Wi-Fi traffic when circulating between computers and access points," which "may open the door to hacking users' domain names."

Q3 2017: Worldwide PC market share: HP 21.8%, Lenovo 21.4%, Dell 15.2%, says Gartner.

Worldwide PC shipments totaled 67 million units in the third quarter of 2017, a 3.6 percent decline from the third quarter of 2016, according to preliminary results by Gartner, Inc. This is the 12th consecutive quarter of declining PC shipments.

"While there were signs of stabilization in the PC industry in key regions, including EMEA, Japan and Latin America, the relatively stable results were offset by the U.S. market, which saw a 10 percent year-over-year decline in part because of a very weak back-to-school sales season," said Mika Kitagawa, principal analyst at Gartner.

"Business PC demand, led by Windows 10 upgrades, continued to drive PC shipments across all regions, but its refresh schedule varies by region. The countries with stable economies, such as the U.S., have created a positive sentiment among businesses, especially for small and midsized businesses (SMBs), which are more vulnerable to external events, such as economic or political."

There are ongoing component shortages, with DRAM shortages getting particularly worse during the third quarter of the year compared with the first half of 2017. "The component price hike impacted the consumer PC market as most vendors generally pass the price hike on to consumers, rather than absorbing the cost themselves," Ms. Kitagawa said. "We expect the DRAM shortage to continue to the end of 2018, but it will not be reflected in the final PC prices immediately."

In the third quarter of 2017, HP Inc. and Lenovo were in a virtual tie for the top spot in the PC market based on shipments (see Table 1). However, HP Inc. is in an upward trend, as it has experienced five consecutive quarter of global PC growth, while Lenovo is in a downward trend with declining shipments in eight of the last 10 quarters.

HP Inc. experienced growth in all key regions, except the U.S. market. The company experienced double-digit growth in Latin America, while in Asia/Pacific HP Inc. secured positive growth for the fifth consecutive quarter. Lenovo experienced its steepest year-over-year decline of PC shipments in the U.S. since it acquired the IBM PC business division in 2005.

Lenovo continues to face the dilemma of market share gains versus profitability. It appears the company is putting more emphasis on profitability than share gain. Dell's worldwide PC shipments were slightly down compared with a year ago, as it registered its first year-over-year shipment decline since the first quarter of 2016.

In the U.S., PC shipments totaled 14.7 million units in the third quarter of 2017, a 10.3 percent decline from the third quarter of 2016 (see Table 2). It was the fourth consecutive quarter of declining PC shipments.

"Weak back-to-school sales were further evidence that traditional consumer PC demand drivers for PCs are no longer effective," Ms. Kitagawa said. "Business PC demand is stable in the U.S., but demand could slow down among SMBs due to PC price increases due to component shortages."

PC shipments in EMEA totaled 19 million units in the third quarter of 2017, a 1.1 percent decline year over year. The contraction in the Western European PC market appears to have slowed down, with the potential for stability in the fourth quarter of 2017. Eastern Europe is experiencing flat to small unit declines as demand is not improving, and there is no obvious impact yet from the Windows 10 migration in the business segment.

In Asia/Pacific, PC shipments reached 24 million units in the third quarter of 2017, down 2.1 percent from the same period last year. While consumer demand remained lackluster, PC demand in the business segment remained steady, especially for notebooks.

In China, the PC market is estimated to have declined by 5 percent in the third quarter of 2017, with more stability in the business market, particularly in large enterprises, than in the consumer space.

Q3 2017: Samsung forecasts record earnings.

Samsung Electronics said on Oct. 13 that its third-quarter operating profit is expected to have nearly tripled on-year.

Operating profit was estimated at 14.5 trillion won (US$12.80 billion), compared with 5.2 trillion won tallied a year earlier, the company said in a regulatory filing.

Sales also probably surged 29.65 percent to 62 trillion won in the July-September period from a year earlier.

The operating profit figure came in line with the market‘s consensus of 14.3 trillion won.

Samsung did not announce the performance estimates of each business division, although the chip business is anticipated to have played a key role in the record-beating report. The company is set to release its final earnings report later this month.

Apple teams up with LG Display for foldable OLED screen. Foldable iPhone for 2020.

Samsung, Lenovo, and maybe LG are coming next year with their own foldable smartphone in 2018.

Samsung with an in-foldable version, Lenovo has the two versions in and out foldable, LG just the out foldable  and ZTE this year in a few days is presenting its out-foldable device.

Apple is taking its time and is projecting to present its version in 2020. Meanwhile Apple has team-up with LG Display for a foldable OLED screen for the iPhone foldable version. Not any sign at this time, if it will be in-foldable or out-foldable.

Also the LG Display sister company LG Innotek will develope the rigid flexible printed circuit board RFPCB. Both companies have recently created a task force for these purposes.

LG has been working for 3 years in foldable OLED screens and has improved upgrading the durability and the yield rate.

LG has recently started its first OLED production for phones at its E5 plant in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province. The first batch of the production will be shipped to LG Electronics and some Chinese handset makers, while the production for iPhone is expected to start from as early as 2019 when its new plant, called E6, is completed in Paju, Gyeonggi Province.
Apple is considering investing in the E6 plant in a push for LG to beef up OLED production. Sources say the two firms have tentatively agreed on the investment but details have not yet been finalized.

Google introduced their second generation family of consumer hardware products.Video.

Press Release:

Today, we introduced our second generation family of consumer hardware products, all made by Google: new Pixel phones, Google Home Mini and Max, an all new Pixelbook, Google Clips hands-free camera, Google Pixel Buds, and an updated Daydream View headset. We see tremendous potential for devices to be helpful, make your life easier, and even get better over time when they’re created at the intersection of hardware, software and advanced artificial intelligence (AI).

Why Google?

These days many devices—especially smartphones—look and act the same. That means in order to create a meaningful experience for users, we need a different approach. A year ago, Sundar outlined his vision of how AI would change how people would use computers. And in fact, AI is already transforming what Google’s products can do in the real world. For example, swipe typing has been around for a while, but AI lets people use Gboard to swipe-type in two languages at once.

Google Maps uses AI to figure out what the parking is like at your destination and suggest alternative spots before you’ve even put your foot on the gas. But, for this wave of computing to reach new breakthroughs, we have to build software and hardware that can bring more of the potential of AI into reality—which is what we’ve set out to do with this year’s new family of products.

Hardware, built from the inside out.

We’ve designed and built our latest hardware products around a few core tenets. First and foremost, we want them to be radically helpful. They’re fast, they’re there when you need them, and they’re simple to use.

Second, everything is designed for you, so that the technology doesn’t get in they way and instead blends into your lifestyle. Lastly, by creating hardware with AI at the core, our products can improve over time.

They’re constantly getting better and faster through automatic software updates. And they’re designed to learn from you, so you’ll notice features—like the Google Assistant—get smarter and more assistive the more you interact with them.

You’ll see this reflected in our 2017 lineup of new Made by Google products:

The Pixel 2 has the best camera of any smartphone, again, along with a gorgeous display and augmented reality capabilities. Pixel owners get unlimited storage for their photos and videos, and an exclusive preview of Google Lens, which uses AI to give you helpful information about the things around you.

Google Home Mini brings the Assistant to more places throughout your home, with a beautiful design that fits anywhere. And Max is our biggest and best-sounding Google Home device, powered by the Assistant. And with AI-based Smart Sound, Max has the ability to adapt your audio experience to you—your environment, context, and preferences.

With PixelBook, we’ve reimagined the laptop as a high-performance Chromebook, with a versatile form factor that works the way you do. It’s the first laptop with the Assistant built in, and the Pixelbook Pen makes the whole experience even smarter.

Our new Pixel Budscombine Google smarts and the best digital sound. You’ll get elegant touch controls that put the Assistant just a tap away, and they’ll even help you communicate in a different language.

The updated DayDream View is the best mobile virtual reality (VR) headset on the market, and the simplest, most comfortable VR experience.

Google Clips is a totally new way to capture genuine, spontaneous moments—all powered by machine learning and AI. This tiny camera seamlessly sends clips to your phone, and even edits and curates them for you.

Assistant, everywhere.

Across all these devices, you can interact with the Google Assistant any way you want—talk to it with your Google Home or your Pixel Buds, squeeze your Pixel 2, or use your Pixelbook’s Assistant key or circle things on your screen with the Pixelbook Pen.

Wherever you are, and on any device with the Assistant, you can connect to the information you need and get help with the tasks to get you through your day. No other assistive technology comes close, and it continues to get better every day.

Google’s hardware business is just getting started, and we’re committed to building and investing for the long run. We couldn’t be more excited to introduce you to our second-generation family of products that truly brings together the best of Google software, thoughtfully designed hardware with cutting-edge AI. We hope you enjoy using them as much as we do.

Samsung preparing for a in-folded type Galaxy Note 9 smartphone launch for next year.

                               in folded                                                                           out folded

According to the investor korea the next Samsung Galaxy Note version 9 will be a in-folded type smartphone.

Samsung may have decided to adopt the in-folding type due to the development of related technologies, which means the phone’s imminent launch can be possible.

The firm reportedly aims to realize a curvature radius of 3 millimeters.

“Samsung has nearly developed technologies related to the in-folding type phone. It means a lot for it to return to the type,”

On Sept. 12, Samsung’s mobile chief Koh Dong-jin also hinted that the firm’s first foldable phone is likely to become the next Note phone, tentatively called the Galaxy Note 9.

“We have the foldable phone in our roadmap for the Note series and are working to solve a series of hurdles before unveiling it next year,” he said at a media conference for the Galaxy Note 8 launch.

“We are preparing for a foldable phone launch but it is still under development,” a Samsung spokesperson said.

Samsung Bendable smartphone model name SM-G888N0 certificate leaks.

Since Samsung exhibited for the first time its foldable display back then at CES 2013 as YOUM.  There have been other companies like Lenovo and LG which have exhibited their prototypes, but no one of them have make a commercial launch at this time just yet.

It seems to make such a device is not that easy.

But sometimes I believe Lenovo and LG are waiting for Samsung launch of the bendable smartphone first, then to come out with theirs.

Besides the comment below made by Koh Dong-jin, President of mobile business at Samsung electronics:

Koh Dong-jin, president of mobile business at Samsung Electronics, said the company is setting its eyes on 2018 to release a smartphone with a bendable display. But he said there are several hurdles it has to overcome, leaving room to push back the release if those problems are not solved.
“As the head of the business, I can say our current goal is next year,” he told reporters. “When we can overcome some problems for sure, we will launch the product.”
I think Samsung is getting ready for a real launch in 2018, CES or MWC, that have to be confirmed officially .

Meanwhile  letsgodigital site has found on NRRA National Radio Research Agency (NRRA) of the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) from South Korea a certificate for a Equipment of radio equipment for LTE mobile communication (transceiver of land mobile station) model name SM-G888N0 with the certification number MSIP-CMM-SEC-SMG888N0 for Samsung Electronics, certification dated September 21st,2017.

Before pictures of the bendable smartphone were leaked or posted with patent applications by Samsung:

Is Samsung going to start launching this version of bendable smartphone instead of launching the other version of foldable smartphone to tablet (smartlet)  in 2018?
