Samsung fights back in Apple patent battle.

The Apple-Samsung  patent dispute has deepened after Samsung filed a counter claim in an Australian court alleging that Apple infringed its wireless patents with its iPhone and iPad, reports Reuters.

A patent dispute between Apple and Samsung forced the South Korean company to delay the launch of its Galaxy Tab tablet computer in Australia last month. Samsung has now filed a claim with the Federal Court of Australia claiming Apple infringed seven of its patents related to wireless communication standards with the development of the iPhone 3G, 3GS and 4 and iPad 2. Samsung added in a statement that the claims from Apple regarding the Galaxy 10.1 are invalid and should be revoked by the court.

Samsung has also appealed a German court’s decision last week to temporarily ban the sales of the Galaxy 10.1 tablet in the country, according to Bloomberg.

Samsung was forced to pull its Galaxy Tab 7.7 from the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin earlier this month as Apple won a similar injunction related to the smaller device.

The German legal action, combined with a Dutch court placing a ban on other Samsung Android devices, means Samsung is having a tough time in Europe currently. The patent dispute between the two companies started in April when Apple first filed claims against Samsung, the biggest Android vendor, when it said the company “slavishly” copied the design of its iPad and iPhone.

Samsung has previously countersued Apple in Germany, Japan and South Korea. It was recently reported that Apple and Samsung have 19 active lawsuits in nine countries.

Other reports suggest the long-running bitter dispute between the two vendors could in theory end up seeing Samsung look to seek a complete ban on the sales of Apple's forthcoming iPhone 5 handset in South Korea.
