HP Announces Energy-efficient Solutions for Businesses and Consumers

New products, research, online storefront unveiled during Unlocking Your Energy event in San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO, March 28, 2011

HP today announced new products, services and HP Labs research that help customers reduce their energy use.

During the company’s Unlocking Your Energy event in San Francisco, HP introduced the EcoSMART portfolio, which delivers solutions that can help customers reduce costs by up to 30 percent and, with the expertise offered by HP Managed Print Services, reduce energy by up to 80 percent. HP EcoSMART fleet and console software options deliver real-time performance information to help businesses save energy and paper, and track critical information to reduce their environmental impact.

HP also unveiled a proof of concept for groundbreaking home energy monitoring research from HP Labs, the company’s central research facility. The research includes a tool that uses sensors and HP gateways throughout the home to track energy consumption by room and appliance. It also offers homeowners energy reduction tips and enables electrical use data to be viewed alongside other resources, such as water and gas.

HP also introduced the HP EcoSolutions Store, an online resource featuring more than 300 ENERGY STAR®-qualified and EPEAT registered products, providing consumers and small businesses with a simple way to identify and purchase HP products designed with the environment in mind.

“The fastest and easiest way to reduce environmental impact, save money and boost productivity is to make the most of the energy we use today,” said Engelina Jaspers, vice president, Environmental Sustainability, HP. “HP provides its customers with the scope and portfolio to deliver a seamless experience for customers who want to manage their energy usage in the connected world.”

The HP Unlocking Your Energy tour is a global initiative to demonstrate how energy efficiency, sustainability and profitability are compatible concepts for consumers and businesses. Event attendees will experience interactive technology exhibits and hear a panel discussion with Chandrakant Patel, senior fellow and director of the Sustainable Ecosystems Research Group at HP Labs, and Don Newell, vice president and chief technology officer of the Server Product Group at AMD, as well as environmental advocates Rick Bayless, sustainable chef-restaurateur, and Bahar Shahpar, fashion designer and sustainable lifestyle consultant.

The panel will be moderated by Marc Gunther, contributing editor at FORTUNE magazine and senior writer at Greenbiz.com. More information on HP’s Unlocking Your Energy tour is available at www.hp.com/go/unlocking.
